What is a Dad?

A dad is someone who wants to catch you before you fall, but instead picks you up, brushes you off, and lets you try again.

A dad is someone who wants to keep you from making mistakes, but instead lets you find your own way, even though his heart breaks in silence when you get hurt.

A dad is someone who holds you when you cry, scolds you when you break the rules, shines with pride when you succeed, and has faith in you even when you fail....

Father's Day is right around the corner.   It celebrates the contribution that fathers and father figures make in their children's lives.

Still looking for some last minute gift ideas?  Here are a few homemade ideas you can do with your little one(s).

  -  Daddy and Me Mug:  You'll need a white ceramic coffee mug (you can find plain mugs at the dollar store usually), and a sharpie marker to write with.  I've read that the oil based sharpie markers form Michaels work the best.  Create your masterpiece on the mug (quote, picture, whatever your little one wants to do), and let dry.  Next bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes and let cool completely before washing.  Hand washing will help the sharpie to last longer.  Many have said that washing in the dishwasher has faded the marker.  Kind of a cute and inexpensive idea for kids to do.  (Even makes a great rainy day activity)

  -  Daddy Questionnaire:  These are really cute to do with kids of all ages.  These are even nice to do every year or two, to see how their perception of their daddy changes as they get older.  Here are a couple of links for some printables.  http://kinzieskreations.blogspot.com/2012/05/fathers-day-printable.html

  -  BBQ Apron (or could also be done as a card):  What you'll need:  White canvas apron - available at craft stores, Fabric paints of different colors, and paintbrushes.  1.  Prewash the apron.  2.  Kids can paint their own pictures, or make hand prints on top of the apron, and below it would read:  Down, the best Dad in town  (ie.  "Hands down, the best dad in town").  This would also be cute as a card or poster.

  -  Handmade card:

"Someday I will find my prince, but my Daddy will always be my King"

"Dad - Ask him when Mom says no"

"When God Created Fathers"

When the good lord was creating Fathers, he started with a tall frame.  A female angel nearby said, "What kind of father is that?  If you're going to make children so close to the ground, why have you put fathers up so high?  He won't be able to shoot marbles without kneeling, tuck a child in bed without bending over, or even kiss a child without a lot of stooping."  And God smiled and said, "Yes, but if I make him child-sized, who would children have to look up to?

"A father is someone who carries pictures in his wallet where his money used to be"

Happy Father's Day to all our wonderful Father's and Father figures out there.  We hope you enjoy your special day this Sunday.
