The snow is falling here in Michigan and I have seen more than one display of Christmas lights up already. I am getting in the spirit but have yet to start decorating our house. I am in the “decorate after Thanksgiving camp,” but I’m all for whatever makes you happy! With the Holidays upon us and Thanksgiving this week already, I wanted to share with you a few ideas how we can show thankfulness this holiday season. Spreading joy and doing something nice for others is fulfilling and can be a great lesson for the whole family. Children learn best from watching your modeled behavior. Below are a few things that you can do with your children, and a few things that you can model for them to teach the importance of showing gratitude and thankfulness.

  1. Donate to a local food pantry
  2. Send a handwritten note to a friend
  3. Send a care package to a soldier
  4. Leave goodies out for the mailman or UPS delivery driver
  5. Donate to a charity
  6. Volunteer at a soup kitchen
  7. Collect old toys and clothes to donate to the homeless
  8. Make a thankful board and write something new on it each day
  9. Share what you are thankful for each night around the dinner table
  10. Pay it forward by buying the persons coffee or meal behind you in line
  11. Smile and greet everyone you meet
  12. Make a point to share with your children why you are thankful for them
  13. Compliment three people
  14. Double your servers tip
  15. Rake your neighbors’ leaves, or shovel their driveway
  16. Cook dinner for a busy family
  17. Purchase a gift for a toy drive
  18. Bake cookies for someone
  19. Volunteer to visit elderly nursing homes
  20. Send someone ‘just because’ flowers

I hope you all have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving ????
